Containd 0.12: web, cloud sync, graph mode, and faster ways to capture your inventory
I recommend doing a backup before updating.
Containd now runs on iOS, Android, and in the browser at https://app.containd.app. One inventory, same app on phone, tablet, and desktop.
Earlier updates already added a stronger mapping focus: inline SVG background editing and floor-plan or landscape symbols on the canvas. Version 0.12 builds on that and turns on several features that were not fully enabled before, including graph mode.
Before you update: backup and database migration
Please make a backup first. Go to Settings → Backup & Restore and save a local backup file you can keep outside the app.
Version 0.12 continues work on the local database structure (inventory tables and the sync change log). When you open the app after updating, Containd runs these steps automatically. You may see "Updating your library…" with a progress bar. Keep the app open until it finishes.
This is normal when coming from an older install. If anything goes wrong, you can restore from your backup. Fresh installs with no data skip this step.
What is new
Web app
Open https://app.containd.app, sign in, and work with your lists in the browser. Cloud sync keeps web and mobile in step.
Without cloud sync, all data of the web app remain 100% on your device. So its only available with the exact browser you used on the same machine with the same url. The whole app runs local after its downloaded initially.
Cloud sync and shared lists (online, pay per use)
Sync your data across devices. Share a list as Read Only for viewing, or Collaborative so others can edit with you. Open Cloud Sync from the header logo or Settings → Containd Cloud. Share a list from its context menu; manage invites under Share Management.
Cloud Sync requires you to log in and switch it on explicitly and is off by default. The app does not reequire cloud sync to work. You can manually back up and load on different devices without logging in or payment.
Graph mode
Draw labelled arrows between items to show relationships on the canvas: what belongs together, what feeds what, or how parts connect. Switch to Graph mode from the canvas mode switcher, drag from one item to another, and edit edge labels. The graph layer was in development for a while but was not enabled for regular use until 0.12.
Find items by photo (on device)
Search your inventory with a photo. The comparison runs on your phone or tablet, not in the cloud. From Home → Find by Image, or Find similar on an item photo. Results appear in Hierarchy Browser with a match score. Available where your device supports on-device image search (not in the web app). After migration, the app may offer a one-time photo setup for search; you can skip it and run it later under Settings → Data Management → Image Storage.
Faster capture
Add many items in one go: Fast capture (one photo per item), Quick add (photo plus title), and Batch add. Open + / Add → Batch & quick capture. Optional voice title in the batch settings when Enter Item Title is on (device speech recognition required).
Bulk Edit Table
Edit many items in a spreadsheet-style grid. Best on web with keyboard navigation like a small Excel. From a list context menu Bulk Edit Table, or the spreadsheet icon in Hierarchy Browser.
Hierarchy Browser
Updated tree view: search, multi-select, richer rows (thumbnails, tags, more fields), and quick actions in the header. Customize visible fields under Settings → Hierarchy View.
Photo import: perspective correction
Straighten skewed photos of documents or labels by dragging four corners, plus crop and rotate. Turn on Enable Photo Editing under Camera & Photos settings. Available on iOS and Android (perspective correction is not on web).
Cloud sync pricing
Cloud sync uses a credit wallet (pay as you go). Check balance and usage under Settings → Containd Cloud → Billing & Activity. Pricing may still be adjusted; costs are shown before large sync operations.
Feedback is welcome. The app is under active development.
